Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and autism are terms that encapsulate an array of complex brain development disorders.
ASD includes autistic disorder, Rett syndrome, childhood disintegrative disorder, pervasive developmental disorder-not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS) and Asperger syndrome. these disorders vary in degree by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors.
WHAT IS THE AUTISM CENTER?
The Autism Treatment Center (ATC) assists people with autism and related disorders throughout their lives as they learn, play, work and live in the community.
WHAT DOES THE AUTISM CENTER DO?
As a private nonprofit, 501(c)(3)corporation, ATC provides its services 24/7/365. ATC is San Antonio’s full-service provider of lifespan services for children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Programs and services include diagnostics, early intervention, residential care in six group homes, specialized education at ATC’s Zajicek Learning Center, ABA, occupational and speech therapy at the new ATC Therapy Clinic, adult programs and research.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
INSPIRE! BE A VOICE FOR AUTISM – Volunteer in ATC’s community outreach programs, spread the word about ATC’s services for children and adults with autism.
GIVE HOPE AS A COMMUNITY PARTNER – ORGANIZE A FUNDRAISER / event in your home, school or office. ATC needs to raise money to make up for recent State budget cuts.
